Title changes for health sciences academic administrators
The senior academic administrators of the Faculty of Health Sciences now have new titles. The change is in response to a review which found the titles of individuals responsible for education and research of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University did not align with those of their counterparts at the other 16 Faculties and medical schools across the country.

The change is in response to a review which found the titles of individuals responsible for education and research of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University did not align with those of their counterparts at the other 16 Faculties and medical schools across the country.
The new titles have been approved by the University’s Senate and Board of Governors to begin July 1. The changes impact the former associate deans of the Faculty, as well as the former assistant deans of undergraduate and postgraduate medicine.
“These new titles recognize the levels of responsibility of our senior academic administrators, and put them on par with their counterparts across Canada,” said Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
The current incumbents and their new titles are:
- Susan Denburg, executive vice-dean and associate vice-president, academic, Faculty of Health Sciences. Her title had been associate vice-president, academic, Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Jonathan Bramson, vice-dean, research, Faculty of Health Sciences. Previously, his title was associate dean, research, Faculty of Health Sciences.
- William Orovan, vice-dean, clinical services and commercial enterprises, Faculty of Health Sciences. He was associate dean, clinical services and commercial enterprises.
- The new head of the School of Rehabilitation Sciences will be vice-dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and executive director, School of Rehabilitation Science. Patty Solomon, who retired from the role on June 30, had the title of associate dean, health sciences and director, School of Rehabilitation Science.
- Sandra Carroll, vice-dean, Faculty of Health Sciences and executive director, School of Nursing. She had been associate dean, health sciences and director, School of Nursing.
- Alan Neville, vice-dean, health professional education, Faculty of Health Sciences. Previously, his title was associate dean, health professional education, Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Del Harnish, vice-dean, undergraduate education, Faculty of Health Sciences. He was the associate dean, undergraduate education, Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Mark Walton, vice-dean, faculty affairs, Faculty of Health Sciences. He had been associate dean, faculty affairs, Faculty of Health Sciences.
- Cathy Hayward, vice-dean, Faculty of Health Sciences, associate dean of graduate studies (health sciences). Her title had been associate dean of graduate studies (health sciences).
- Rob Whyte, associate dean, undergraduate medical education, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. He had been assistant dean, undergraduate medical education.
- Parveen Wasi, associate dean, postgraduate medical education, Michael G. DeGroote School of Medicine. She had been the assistant dean, postgraduate medical education.
