Acting chairs have been appointed for short terms in pathology and molecular medicine, and oncology.
Murray Potter will serve as acting chair of pathology and molecular medicine for up to one year. This position is vacant as Mark Crowther, who has served as chair since October 2014, is moving into the role of chair of medicine.
Jim Wright will be the acting chair of oncology for up to three months until a permanent chair is announced this fall. Mark Levine, the current chair of oncology, concludes his second term at the end of this month.
Both appointments are effective July 1.
“I appreciate Dr. Potter and Dr. Wright sharing their expertise and time as acting chairs,” said Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president for the Faculty of Health Sciences. “We are fortunate to have these two excellent faculty members to fill these roles until the permanent successors are named.”
Potter is a professor of pathology and molecular medicine, the head of biochemical genetics in clinical pathology and an associate member of pediatrics. Potter’s area of research is inborn errors of metabolism. He has served as the associate chair of education and as department education coordinator.
Wright is an associate professor of oncology. He is also the division head of radiation oncology at the Juravinski Cancer Centre. His research focuses on clinical trials, and quality of life outcomes. Wright is currently the chair of the data safety monitoring committee of the Canadian Cancer Trials Network, and the chair of the oversight committee of the Ontario Cancer Research Ethics Board.
