McMaster recognized as a leader in nursing, medical and health education
From its storied history as the birthplace of evidence-based medicine, McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences has established itself as a leader in health education, research and training. The Faculty continues to be at the forefront of health nationally and globally, preparing tomorrow’s health care professionals and educating the public on health issues that impact them most.
That legacy persists with the Faculty being selected as an inaugural participant in YouTube’s global initiative, YouTube Health. The program empowers the Faculty to help battle health misinformation and provide access to reliable health information from medical experts. Additionally, the Faculty has been recognized in national and global rankings as one the top health and clinical universities in the world.
“For generations, the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster has been dedicated to educational excellence through interdisciplinary and collaborative learning,” says Dean and Vice-President, Paul O’Byrne. “We seek to shape the future of health care by educating and preparing the innovators and health-care providers of tomorrow.”
McMaster’s strong results in health subject rankings were led by the nursing programs in the Faculty of Health Sciences, which ranked 4th in reputation and 6th overall in the 2025 MacLean’s University Rankings. McMaster’s nursing program was also recognized internationally, ranking 33rd in the QS World University Rankings by Subject.
“At McMaster’s School of Nursing, we recognize the important role exceptional nurses have on global health-care systems, and the impact these nurses have on their communities,” says Sandra Carroll, vice-dean, Health Sciences and executive director, School of Nursing. “Our aim is to empower our learners to become the future of nursing and innovators in patient care.”
McMaster also maintained its position as a global and national leader in medical and health education. The university ranked 4th in Canada in Medical and Doctoral Universities in the MacLean’s University Rankings and was recognized by four major international rankings as one of the world’s top 50 universities in medical, health and anatomy.
