From mentorship to collaboration: Insights on success from a world-renowned research methodologist
The Faculty of Health Sciences is committed to fostering an interdisciplinary approach to research and education.
Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences, spoke with Lehana Thabane, professor in the Department of Health Research Methods, Evidence and Impact and vice president of research at St. Joseph’s Healthcare, about the importance of enhancing health research and fostering the development of future researchers.
Thabane is a world-renowned scholar, educator and research methodologist.
He has been globally recognized for his pioneering work in health research, the development of original and rigorous biostatistical methods and his passion for mentoring without borders.
Thabane attributes his success – which includes receiving an honourary degree from Stellenbosch University in South Africa and being named a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada – to his local, national and international collaborators.
The Ubuntu philosophy: “I am because we are,” has been one of the foremost guiding principles in everything he does.
