Barry Lumb appointed as Vice-Dean, Clinical Services
Barry Lumb has been appointed as vice-dean, Clinical Services for the Faculty of Health Sciences, effective July 1, 2023.
As vice-dean, Clinical Services, Lumb will create a strategic vision and guide the clinical mission of the faculty.
Lumb is a professor of medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology. Throughout his career, Lumb has held several leadership roles, most recently as the executive lead of Epic Implementation at Hamilton Health Sciences (2018-2022), regional endoscopy lead at Cancer Care Ontario (2016-2022) and physician-in-chief at Hamilton Health Sciences (2008-2020). He served on the Royal College Examination Board for six years, including four years as chair of the board. Lumb has continued his clinical practice with a major interest in inflammatory bowel disease and interventional endoscopy.

His expertise and experience will be a great asset to the Faculty and to our partnerships with our affiliated hospitals, and I look forward to working with him,” said Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Lumb competed his HonBSc (‘75), MD (‘79), and his residency and sub-specialty fellowship in Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology (‘85) all at McMaster University.
“I am grateful for the opportunity to accept this leadership role with the Faculty of Health Sciences. As a McMaster-educated physician, it is especially exciting for me to take on this role and to work closely with our affiliated hospital partners to advance our world-class medical education and patient care,” said Lumb.
