My role as Vice-Dean, Health Sciences and Associate Dean, Graduate Studies (Health Sciences) is to further McMaster’s goals regarding graduate education and research training in health sciences, and provide leadership and coordination for all activities related to those goals. I work closely with the Assistant, Associate and Vice-Deans of the Faculty and the School of Graduate Studies to ensure that both Faculty-specific and University-wide goals are addressed, and I work to enhance the quality of life and sense of community amongst the diverse group of graduate students and research trainees within the Faculty.

How I describe my role:
The Faculty of Health Sciences offers over 23 graduate PhD, master’s, and diploma programs in health professional and research training, accounting for about one-third of all the graduate students at McMaster. I represent the Health Sciences perspective on the graduate mission in the senior leadership team of both the School of Graduate Studies and the Faculty of Health Sciences.

What do I do?
Working closely with the Dean and Vice-President of the Faculty of Health Sciences and the Vice-Provost and Dean of Graduate Studies, as well as the team of Health Sciences graduate program Directors and Assistant Deans, I oversee all aspects of the graduate education mission in the Faculty. Some examples include:

• Oversee the development, maintenance and improvement of graduate programming in the Faculty of Health Sciences and oversee the quality assurance process for graduate programs.
• Contribute to strategic and financial planning for matters of graduate admissions, student enrollment, development of new disciplinary and interdisciplinary programs, and student recruitment and retention.
• Promote innovation in graduate education and research training and facilitate interdisciplinary programming campus-wide.
