What is intersectionality and why is it important?

VIDEO: Intersectionality is a framework that describes how overlapping or intersecting social identities can create multiple forms of oppression or discrimination. Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences at McMaster University, spoke with Saroo Sharda, associate dean of equity and inclusion, about why it’s important to apply an intersectional lens in health care and health education.
