COVID-19 has significantly changed our daily lives. During this one-hour webinar, two agile McMaster University innovators shared how they shifted gears to contribute to the fight against the pandemic.
Dr. Mark Larché, Professor of Medicine and Deputy Chair of the Michael G. DeGroote Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare (MGDII) College of Health Inventors, moderated a discussion with Dr. Zeinab Hosseini-Doust and Dr. Jeremy Hirota.
Dr. Hosseini-Doust is an Assistant Professor in McMaster’s Department of Chemical Engineering. Her team uses bacteriophages, good viruses that prey on bacteria, to combat antimicrobial resistant superbugs. Since mid-March, she has been part of a team designing test setups for testing the performance of new personal protection equipment.
Dr. Hirota is an Assistant Professor in McMaster’s Department of Medicine. He explores how the things we breathe, including viruses, get detected and addressed by our lungs. Dr. Hirota recently received two grants to develop an optimized COVID-19 diagnostic test that predicts a host’s response to the virus.
The conversation explored the creation of innovative teams, tips for agility and thoughts on how we bottle the mobilization that COVID-19 has created to solve other world issues.
