The Faculty and the COVID-19 pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic has required many changes at the Faculty of Health Sciences. The university is still open, but strategies to mitigate the situation have impacted the education, research, clinical service and administration of the Faculty. In-person classes and exams were cancelled, and all clinical placements suspended. Residents and clinical fellows, however, are working within the health system. Research continues, although there are arrangements being made for different projects to ensure social distance is maintained.

Research continues, although there are arrangements being made for different projects to ensure social distance is maintained.
As many faculty and staff as possible are working from home, and they are accessible to carry on the Faculty’s business. This includes the Health Sciences Library which has closed its physical space but is offering a full slate of services online.
As Mohawk College has closed all of its buildings, and the School of Rehabilitation Science is working from home, the Institute for Applied Health Sciences has been closed.
The hospital is limiting entrances into the hospitals, including the Health Sciences Centre, and they are screening everyone who enters.
“We’ve had absolutely wonderful response from faculty, staff and students of the Faculty,” said Paul O’Byrne, dean and vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences. “This is a unprecedented situation impacting each of us and I truly appreciate the thoughtful and patient response.”
