Tinman would like a heart, and Scarecrow would like a brain. Join them on their journey to visit the ‘The Wizard of Organ Transplants.” This video reviews the basic immunological principles of organ transplantation, such as Human Leukocyte Antigens (HLA), the major histocompatibility complex (MHC), the meaning of ‘donor’ and ‘recipient’ as well as the functions of the cells of the immune defense system. It discusses when organ transplants are needed, how organ donors get matched to organ recipients, what happens when organ transplants fail and the kinds of immunosuppressive drugs that help to reduce the chances of organ transplant failure.
