This clinically applicable study aims to provide physicians with data for the most common organisms causing ocular infections based on patient demographics.
The objective of the study is to determine the incidence and prevalence of the organisms causing ocular infections (conjunctivitis, corneal ulcers, endophthalmitis) in the area served by Canadian microbiology laboratories. Data on ocular infections will be compiled from microbiology laboratories nationally and will be analyzed to determine the most common causative organisms stratified by region, age, and other factors. There is currently no existing database for ocular infections in Canada. Some studies have been conducted in other areas in Canada, but they have only examined one specific type of infection or causative organism. This study will be clinically applicable as it aims to provide physicians with data for the most common organisms causing ocular infections based on patient demographics. This information will allow physicians to provide the best evidence-based care, particularly when there is no access to a microbiology laboratory or when a sample cannot be taken from the patient.
