The 2022 World’s Best Specialized Hospitals rankings, published by the American news magazine Newsweek, has ranked McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences’ Department of Pediatrics 46 th in the world.
The ranking places McMaster second in Ontario, and fifth in Canada.
The foundation of the rankings is a global survey of over 40,000 physicians, healthcare professionals, hospital managers, and directors from more than 20 countries. The data was collected from June to August 2021.
Participants were asked to recommend and rank hospitals based on their expertise in their primary medical field – in this case, the field of pediatrics for pediatricians. The questionnaire did not suggest a list of hospitals and respondents were free to identify any hospital they deemed recommendable.
Through this process, a preliminary reputation score was calculated for every institution based on a weighted recommendation in every medical field. Preliminary lists were submitted to a global expert board that served an advisory role for validation.
“It is a privilege to be ranked among the very best pediatric centres in the world,” said Angelo Mikrogianakis, chair of McMaster University’s Department of Pediatrics.
“Second in Ontario and fifth in the country is a position to celebrate and also a position to grow and improve upon. The rankings are a testament to the phenomenal work, expertise, and care provided to the children and families at McMaster Children’s Hospital. I’m proud of our team and can’t wait to keep going – and climbing higher.”
Newsweek’s rankings of the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2022 for Pediatrics are published online.
