“The Clinic brings together students, staff and faculty for an immersive entrepreneurial experience,” said John Kelton, Executive Director of the Michael G. DeGroote Initiative for Innovation in Healthcare. “The McMaster community now has the space to explore health innovation ideas, generate solutions, and build new ventures thanks to the generosity of Mary and Marnix Heersink and their family.”
The Clinic @ Joe’s, located at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, focuses on understanding the patient experience, the health system, and areas for innovation in research and clinical practice.
The Clinic @ DeGroote, located at the Ron Joyce Centre in Burlington, helps with the commercialization of McMaster’s vast repository of research by connecting DeGroote MBA candidates with researchers.
The Clinic @ Mac provides entrepreneurial education, collaboration space, experts-in-residence, a mentor network of researchers, clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, and industry professionals, and access to market and patent databases. It is located inside the Health Sciences Centre library on McMaster University’s main campus.
A virtual pilot project launched The Clinic @ Mac over the summer. Twenty-four emerging health innovators became Clinic Residents and explored a variety of challenges. The residents were an interdisciplinary group of undergraduate students, graduate students, researchers, and clinicians from across campus.
The first official cohort will run from October 2020 to June 2021. A call for applications will take place in late summer. Sign up for the Michael G. DeGroote Health Innovation, Commercialization & Entrepreneurship initiative’s email notifications for details.
