The lack of racial diversity in North American medical research. This presentation will focus on the news articles titled “Racially Diverse Cell Lines Needed for Precision Medicine to Reach Underrepresented Populations”, (Medical News Today, 2019) and “Medical Mistrust Linked to Race and Ethnicity”, (AJMC, 2021). The first news article discusses a study on the lack of racial diversity in cell lines utilized within medical research such as breast, prostate, and cervical cancer, (Hooker Jr., 2019). The second news article discusses multiple different studies that determine the correlation between medical mistrust and ethnicity.
