Tracy Mestdagh has been named the director of information technology (IT) for the Faculty of Health Sciences.
Mestdagh has served as interim director since fall 2019, playing a critical role in leading change management and staff support during the Faculty-wide IT needs assessment.
He became the permanent director on June 30, 2020.
“I am excited to be stepping into the role of director of IT for the Faculty as the past eight months have been extremely busy but also very rewarding,” said Mestdagh. “I feel very fortunate to have the results of the FHS IT needs assessment as a roadmap in moving forward.”
Mestdagh holds a bachelor of mathematics from the University of Waterloo.
He came to McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences in 2012 to lead the Medical School Information System (MedSIS) application as a senior project manager with the Computer Services Unit (CSU). Prior to that, he spent 21 years in various IT leadership roles at Western University’s Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry.
Mestdagh says his key short-term projects include: developing an FHS IT governance structure, refining the CSU funding model to provide core services, such as web content delivery, to the Faculty, and working with McMaster’s University Technology Services to create a unified help desk.
“Tracy is highly committed to the success of his team, and to ensuring that the work of the CSU is enabling the strategic goals of the Faculty,” said Laura Harrington, assistant vice-president of the Faculty of Health Sciences.
“During his time as acting director, Tracy has been able to prioritize and move forward with some of the foundational recommendations in the needs assessment. He has also built strong relationships with stakeholders in FHS, across campus, and within our host hospitals; these will be important as we look to enhance our collaborations in the months ahead.”
