Dr. William F. McIntyre Appointed Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiology

Dr. McIntyre has over 100 publications with 40 as first author. His work has been published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association and the European Heart Journal.
Congratulations to our Expert Dr. William F. McIntyre on his appointment as Assistant Professor, Division of Cardiology, effective September 1st 2021.
Dr. McIntyre is a well-trained electrophysiologist with special expertise in Health Research Methodology. He obtained his Medical Degree from Queen’s University in 2010. His postgraduate training in Internal Medicine and Adult Cardiology were undertaken at Queen’s University and the University of Manitoba respectively.
Dr. McIntyre completed a clinical fellowship in Cardiac Pacing and Electrophysiology at McMaster University. While at McMaster, he enrolled in the Clinician Investigator Program and, in May 2021, he received his PhD in Health Research Methods. His thesis “Atrial Fibrillation Occurring Transiently with Stress” examined the new-onset AF in patients after surgery or with another primary illness.
Dr. McIntyre has been a Clinical Scholar in the Division of Cardiology for the past year, working as an attending physician in peri-operative cardiac surgery at Hamilton General Hospital, as a consultant electrophysiologist at St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and as a general cardiologist at St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton and Hamilton Health Sciences. As part of his work in peri-operative cardiac surgery, he created The Cardiac Surgery Peri-operative Atrial Fibrillation Follow-up Clinic. The first of its kind in Canada, the clinic systematically follows up with every patient that has new-onset peri-operative atrial fibrillation during an admission for cardiac surgery at Hamilton General Hospital.
Dr. McIntyre has over 100 publications with 40 as first author. His work has been published in the prestigious Journal of the American Medical Association and the European Heart Journal, as well as in several electrophysiology subspeciality journals. He has been a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Electrocardiology since 2017. Between 2017 and 2019, he was a trainee member of the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.
Dr. McIntyre received a highly competitive Canadian Institutes of Health Research Post-Doctoral Fellowship Award and has won numerous awards including the McMaster University Faculty of Health Sciences Graduate Programs Outstanding Achievement Award and the Canadian Cardiovascular Society’s Trainee Excellence in Education Award.
