Dr. Smitha Kacheri Pathayappura Appointed Assistant Professor, Division of Dermatology

Dr. Pathayappura will be sited at the McMaster University Medical Centre, where she plans to establish a dedicated contact dermatitis clinic.
Congratulations to Dr. Smitha Kacheri Pathayappura on her appointment as Assistant Professor (clinician-educator stream) in the Division of Dermatology, effective September 1st, 2021.
Dr. Pathayappura earned her MBBS from Calicut Medical College in Kerala, India, graduating with Honours Distinction. After registering with the Travancore-Cochin Council of Modern Medicine, she worked for a few years as a general practitioner, in addition to serving as a clinical research associate in multiple international clinical trials at Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences & Technology.
Dr. Pathayappura returned to Calicut Medical College to complete residency training in dermatology. Additionally, she was recognized as a Diplomate of National Board (DNB) for the practice of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy by India’s national certifying body for medical specialists, after successfully defending her thesis entitled, “Dermatological problems of malnutrition in children: a clinical study.”
After practicing as an independent dermatologist in India for a period of time, Dr. Pathayappura came to Canada and pursued a two-year clinical fellowship in dermatology at McMaster University, specializing in contact dermatitis, phototherapy, and advanced occupational medicine. She has also earned a Clinical Research Associate (CRA) Certificate from McMaster University.
She will be primarily sited at the McMaster University Medical Centre, where she plans to establish a dedicated contact dermatitis clinic, and apply her first-hand expertise in management of dermatoses in skin of colour.
