Dr. Sameer Sharif Appointed Assistant Professor, Division of Emergency Medicine

Dr. Sharif has won numerous awards in Emergency and Critical Care from McMaster University and from the American College of Emergency Physicians.
Congratulations to Dr. Sameer Sharif on his appointment as Assistant Professor, Division of Emergency Medicine, effective July 1st, 2021.
Dr. Sharif graduated with a Bachelor of Medical Sciences from the University of Western Ontario in 2011 and an MD from McMaster in 2014. He then completed residency training in Emergency Medicine and Critical Care at McMaster University in 2019 and 2020, respectively. During his residency training he was awarded as Outstanding Emergency Medicine and Critical Care Medicine Resident and received the McMaster PGME Resident Mentor Award in 2020.
He has won numerous awards in Emergency and Critical Care from McMaster and from the American College of Emergency Physicians. He created engaging and sought-after presentations on key resuscitation and COVID-19 topics including more than a dozen in 2020.
Dr. Sharif’s work in education and research has been recognized on a national level with his CAEP CanVECTOR Research Abstract Award. This award is from the national emergency medicine specialty society, acknowledging the top research from among all resident and faculty submissions. For his work as a teacher, Dr. Sharif was awarded national recognition via the Essentials of Emergency Medicine Education Fellowship Award. He is working on research that intersects the specialties of both Emergency Medicine and Critical Care. To that end, he is a co-chair on Emergency Department ventilation guidelines.
Dr. Sharif currently works in both the Emergency Department at Hamilton Health Sciences and the Intensive Care Unit at William Osler and Mackenzie Health. His ongoing research projects include a systematic review and meta-analysis on the utility of probiotics in critical illness and development of guidelines on ventilation in the Emergency Department. He lists 27 publications including several editorials.
