Dr. Darryl Leong Appointed New Research Director for Internal Medicine Residency Program
Dr. Leong brings a wealth of research expertise to this role as a Scientist with the Population Health Research Institute, with formal training including a Masters of Biostatistics, Masters of Public Health and a Doctor of Philosophy.
We are thrilled to announce that Dr. Darryl Leong will be taking over as the new Research Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. As many of you know, Dr. Leong is an Associate Professor in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology, at McMaster University. He brings a wealth of research expertise to this role as a Scientist with the Population Health Research Institute, with formal training including a Masters of Biostatistics, Masters of Public Health and a Doctor of Philosophy. His personal program of research strives to identify innovative diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular disease through observational population study, and to test out approaches in prospective clinical trials. He has provided research mentorship to many of our residents since joining faculty at McMaster. We are very fortunate to have him take on the leadership role of our prominent and successful research program!
We are also very excited to announce that Dr. Jennifer Tsang will assume the inaugural role of Regional Deputy Research Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program. Dr. Tsang is an Associate Professor with the Department of Medicine, Division of Critical Care Medicine, working in Niagara Health. She similarly brings an abundance of research experience, having completed a Doctor of Philosophy in Molecular Biology, and leading the Critical Care Research Program at Niagara Health, including acting as the site principal investigator on numerous multi-center clinical trials and observational trials. She has a long history of mentoring medical students and residents at Niagara Regional Campus, and looks forward to continuing this mentorship role in working with our internal medicine residents as well as enhancing collaboration with our regional partners through research and education.

Both Drs. Leong and Tsang look forward to continuing the collaboration with our current Deputy Research Director, Dr. Siraj Mithoowani who will continue in the role.
Finally, we want to take this opportunity to share our overwhelming appreciation for the incredible work that Dr. Christine Ribic has done in this role over the last 5 years. She has provided individualized mentorship to all of our residents in selecting and completing their research projects, tailoring the curriculum, and delivering a fantastic research day each year. You will be greatly missed, and we wish you all the best in your new role as Nephrology Division Director. They are lucky to have you in the role.
