CHEPA member Meredith Vanstone, an Associate Professor in McMaster’s Department of Family Medicine, will speak about “Cannabis use in pregnancy and lactation after legalization in 2018: Patient and Clinician decision-making processes” in a CHEPA seminar on January 18, 2023.
The seminar will take place from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm virtually by Zoom. All are welcome to attend.
Recreational cannabis use was legalized in Canada in 2018. Since that time, use in both the general and perinatal populations have increased. With a lack of data about clinical outcomes and few evidence-based harm reduction strategies, pregnant and lactating people may struggle to make decisions about whether and how to change their cannabis use. Clinicians are similarly challenged to counsel about this issue.
In this seminar, Dr. Vanstone presents work from a nearly completed CIHR grant which describes how pregnant and lactating people and their clinicians make decisions about perinatal cannabis use. To read more about the CIHR grant, click HERE.
