SARS-CoV-2, commonly referred to as COVID-19 has been sweeping the world these past 10 months, with over 45.5 million confirmed cases by October 30, 2020. One of the more concerning features of the virus is its neurological effects – its impacts on the human brain and nervous system – and the prevalence of these effects.
Through the lens of Sarah, our theoretical patient, this video discusses what neurological symptoms of COVID-19 are, and what a typical patient who displays serious symptoms may look like, and what may happen to them once transferred into the healthcare system.
We also briefly describe what factors physicians and scientists suspect to contribute to these neurological symptoms caused by the virus and how this compares to other coronavirus outbreaks, such as SARS and MERS. Learn more about neurological symptoms of COVID-19 and tune in later for the molecular mechanisms on why they happen.
