Chair’s Medical Grand Rounds: Reshaping Research Priorities to Match the Massive Crises We Face
Dr. Kaveh Shojania gave extraordinarily compelling Chair’s Grand Rounds that highlighted many issues that society faces today.
The theme of the Grand Rounds was: Reshaping research priorities to match the massive crises we face.
The speaker, Dr. Kaveh Shojania, is a Professor and Vice Chair, Quality & Innovation, Department of Medicine at University of Toronto. The forum was moderated by Dr. Seychelle Yohanna, Assistant Professor, Division of Nephrology in the Department of Medicine.
The main objectives were to:
- Understand the small effects delivered by most efforts to improve healthcare quality
- Appreciate that the same applies to most biomedical research – most therapies don’t pan out, and those that do typically deliver marginal gains
- Recognize the importance of fundamentally changing the research and policy changes we pursue in order to avoid becoming complacent as the world burns around us.
The Chair’s Medical Grand Rounds are conducted monthly to explore various topics on clinical advances, medical research and updates in diagnosis and treatment. The Grand Rounds are a component of continuous medical education.
