With the constantly evolving nature of cancer, various treatment modalities have come into focus. Cancer immunotherapy is an umbrella term for many new and promising treatments that work by modulating a patient’s own immune system in order to combat their specific form of cancer. This video explores CAR T-cell therapy — a treatment that increases the specificity of a patient’s T-Cells for tumour cells in their body. Although there are a number of drawbacks that are currently associated with this treatment, it has been shown to be very effective against certain blood cancers, such as acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) and some B-cell malignancies.
