Type 2 diabetes, a disease that is becoming more and more common in children and young adults, is closely linked to obesity. However it is not easy to fight obesity. Gastric bypass surgery, touted as a “miracle cure”, is a method to curb and reduce obesity and possibly reverse type 2 Diabetes; it involves surgically reducing the size of the stomach, thus causing the recipient of surgery to eat smaller amounts of food and consequently lose weight. This video explores the benefits and risks that gastric bypass surgery could present for obese children with Type 2 diabetes.
