Tracy Arabski, a familiar face in Health Research Services in the Faculty of Health Sciences, is now its director.
Arabski spent close to the past five years as assistant then associate director in the office before transitioning into her new role on Feb. 12.
“This is an exciting opportunity,” she said. “As an office, we strive to provide resources and remove the barriers for our researchers. This position offers tremendous potential for innovation to further support and advance research in the Faculty of Health Sciences.”
Arabski is a McMaster University alumna, graduating with a BA in Economics in 1991. She also holds an MBA from Wilfrid Laurier University and a graduate certificate in human resource management from Mohawk College.
Prior to coming to McMaster, Arabski worked as director of campus operations for Wilfrid Laurier University, as well as in various roles at Enterprise Brant and Western Ontario Community Futures Development Corporation Association. She also worked at McMaster’s School of Graduate Studies in the 1990s.
As part of the Health Research Services team, Arabski led the implementation of the McMaster ICES research facility, and assisted with the establishment of Mosaic in Health Research Services and the reorganization and role refinement in the office to enhance customer service for faculty members.
The Health Research Services office provides advice and administrative support to process operating and personnel grants, manages research resources and administers the ethics review process for medical research involving human and animal subjects. The office oversees $133 million of McMaster health research revenue and close to 2,000 accounts each year.
Arabski succeeds past director Greg Weiler, who retired in January 2018.
“Tracy Arabski brings a wealth of knowledge and energy to this new role,” said Jonathan Bramson, associate dean of research in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
“In her previous role as associate director, she worked closely with our faculty members, which provided her with an excellent understanding of the needs of faculty. She is keen to use her knowledge of the faculty to continually improve our research services and develop new initiatives to augment the strength of the research enterprise.”
