Congratulations to Sarah Svenningsen on receiving a two-year CIHR Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship Award. Only 70 fellowships are awarded nationally and internationally each year. Sarah is a postdoctoral fellow who has been working under the supervision of Dr. Param Nair since 2016. Sarah received this fellowship award for her work in using pulmonary MRI to improve asthma patient outcomes, work for which she also won a Polanyi Prize in 2017. Sarah’s approach uses an inhaled gas, tracked by an MRI machine as it moves throughout the lungs and would allow doctors to target treatment to only those airways that are diseased, greatly reducing the number of treatments needed, costs and patient burden.
