Our bodies are made out of a complex network of blood vessels known as arteries that spread across our entire body, ensuring that we get the necessary blood supply required to stay alive. These networks are crucial to the proper functioning of our body, but what happens if they run into an issue such as a blocked artery? Medical technology has been using stents to assist with blocked arteries since 1986. Up until more recently, the most common forms of stents have included metallic and drug eluting stents. However, although this technology has long been used, it did not come without its drawbacks.

Check out our channel for an introduction on Biodegradable Polymer Drug Eluting Stents (BPDES), their mechanism, and how they compare to previous stents. Then finally, the video will explore some of the risks associated with BPDES and further research that is currently being done to address them.
