New, patient-focused guidelines treat obesity as a chronic disease

A McMaster University faculty member has co-written a comprehensive new set of guidelines for doctors to follow when treating patients with obesity, marking a dramatic shift from existing practices. Sean Wharton, one of the two lead authors of the new clinical practice guidelines that Obesity Canada and the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, is an adjunct professor of internal medicine in the Faculty of Health Sciences.
