A key to the long-term success of any department is to be able to develop and support current and future leaders and provide them with the skills and insights that will enable them to perform at the highest level as they take on leadership roles and tasks.
While there are many opportunities for leadership training, including our own Faculty of Health Science's leadership program, the department has offered a foundational leadership skills development program for the past five years. This program is open to all faculty, learners, and staff interested in improving their performance in their current leadership roles, or preparing them for roles they are likely to take on in the near future.
The program includes four half-day workshop learning sessions looking at general leadership skills including: leading self and engaging others, achieving results, developing coalitions, and systems transformations; communities of practice of eight to 10 people, including one just for residents in leadership roles, and opportunities for mentoring.
