Supports for Ontario Health Teams

The Public and Patient Engagement Collaborative is pleased to be part of the Ontario Ministry of Health's Central Program of Supports for Ontario Health Teams (OHTs). The Central Program of Supports is designed to assist OHTs in improving their readiness to achieve OHT implementation deliverables set out by the Ministry. Our role is to support OHTs with Building Block #3: Patient partnership and community engagement, with a specific focus on supporting the evaluation and measurement of patient, family and caregiver engagement.

On this page, you'll find the supports/reports that we have developed for OHTs as part of this work. If you are working with an OHT on patient, family and caregiver engagement and you would like additional information or have a support request, please contact us at

Patient, Family and Caregiver Engagement in Ontario Health Teams: Learning from Early Experiences

This report shares the findings of a series of interviews the PPE Collaborative conducted with patient, family and caregiver partners and engagement leads with a number of Phase 1 OHTs in late 2020. The focus of the work was on understanding how patient, family and caregiver parters are recruited to OHTs; structures and activities established to provide opportunities for them to contribute, advise, partner or co-lead; the influences of COVID-19 on engagement, partnering and co-design activities; early assessments of impact; contributors and challenges to successful engagement; and, recommendations for supporting engagement and partnering in OHTs moving forward.
