A information technology (IT) needs assessment for the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) has gotten underway with Kathy Denney as project manager.  This assessment is to understand the IT needs within the Faculty, identify how those needs are currently being met by the existing IT organization and service delivery model, and to identify:

  • approaches to IT service delivery that have proven to be effective,
  • duplication or redundancy of IT service provision (both within the Faculty and across McMaster),
  • opportunities for synergies, and/or
  • gaps in IT service provision.

The initial phase of the project, which will take place over the next few weeks, includes research and preliminary analysis of:

  • Service satisfaction and relevant engagement survey results
  • High-level IT activity analysis across FHS departments
  • University IT Strategic Plan
  • Financial or other relevant review reports
  • Additional Department or Faculty information that may impact this assessment.

Stakeholder feedback sessions are also being planned, and approximately 20 groups of staff faculty, students and hospital representatives will be invited to join Denney in person to share their confidential feedback as part of a small group.  IT service users will meet with Kathy first before she meets with IT providers within the Faculty.   It is anticipated this feedback process will take four to six weeks.  She said that all staff and faculty will have the opportunity to share their input through an online collection tool that will be available in early October.

Denney said the stakeholder feedback process is critical to this work and participation by those in the Faculty will be much appreciated.  Questions about the objectives of this assessment or the assessment process, should go to Denney at (denneyk@mcmaster.ca) or Krupa Lalloo, associate director of FHS human resources, at (lallook@mcmaster.ca).
