Individualizing BMI Targets Using Genetics and Clinical Biomarkers

Speaker: Irfan Khan, MSc. Candidate

Irfan Khan is a Hamilton native and McMaster University graduate, receiving his BSc. Kin (Honours) in Kinesiology in 2018. Currently, he is completing his MSc. in the Medical Sciences program at the Genetic and Molecular Epidemiology Laboratory (GMEL) under
the supervision of Dr. Guillaume Paré. The objective of Irfan’s thesis is to determine whether the ideal BMI can be personalized based on individual genetic and nongenetic composition.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

  1. To determine whether the optimal BMI varies based on genetic variation.
  2. To determine whether the optimal BMI varies based on clinical biomarker variation.
