Dr. Katherine Morrison answered a question from a 10-year old reader:

QUESTION: “Does too much gaming affect your sleep?"

DR. M’S ANSWER: “We do think that too much gaming (or other screen time) can impact your sleep! Not getting enough deep sleep can impact many aspects of your life. It can impact your ability to learn, to engage in activities with your friends and impacts your appetite. Not getting enough sleep can increase your appetite, especially for foods with high calories but few important nutrients. 

Gaming seems to be addictive for some people as well and can result in less attention to other important activities in your life and social relationships. In this way, gaming may be more of a problem than other forms of screen time.”
