Membership

The MERIT program is dedicated to building a community of practice around health professions education (HPE). There are three levels of membership: Member, Scholar, and Scientist.

MERIT Members have sustained and growing interest in Health Professions Education.

 

Benefits to becoming a MERIT Member include:

  • MERIT affiliation
  • your profile in MERIT communications
  • the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists

Responsibilities of being a MERIT Member include:

  • regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
  • presentation at MERIT Rounds

To apply to be a MERIT Member, please complete the Membership Form below and provide a letter of support from your Department/Program chair. Applications can be sent to merit@mcmaster.ca.

The membership committee will review all applications.

 

MERIT Scholars have demonstrated knowledge and experience in Health Professions Education research and / or innovation projects.

 

Benefits to becoming a MERIT Scholar include:

  • MERIT affiliation
  • your profile in MERIT communications
  • the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists
  • access to office space, conference funding and research assistant support (limited)
  • access to internal peer review of applications, publications and academic mentorship

Responsibilities of being a MERIT Scholar include:

  • regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
  • presentation at MERIT Rounds
  • peer consultations with Scholars and Scientists
  • scholarly paper review
  • membership on HSEd thesis committee(s)
  • assist with welcoming and hosting visiting scholars/scientists

MERIT Scientists have graduate training and lead a program of Health Professions Education research with an established track record in HPE scholarship.

 

Benefits to becoming a MERIT Scientist include:

  • MERIT affiliation
  • your profile in MERIT communications
  • the opportunity for project consultation with one of our scholars or scientists
  • access to office space, conference funding and research assistant support
  • access to internal peer review of applications, publications and academic mentorship
  • SPSS or NVivo subscription, CV management, expense management
  • access to senior academic mentorship
  • access to tele- or video-conferencing for project communication

Responsibilities of being a MERIT Scientist include:

  • regular attendance at our monthly MERIT Rounds
  • presentation at MERIT Rounds
  • peer consultations with Scholars and Scientists
  • scholarly paper review
  • membership on HSEd thesis committee(s)
  • assist with welcoming and hosting visiting scholars/scientists
  • regular attendance of our monthly MERIT staff meetings
  • competing for peer-reviewed grants
  • producing first or senior author peer-reviewed publications
  • supervising HSEd thesis students
  • collaborating with Scholars
