Congratulations to Dr. Leslie Martin for her appointment as the new Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program, in the Department of Medicine.

Below is a personal message from Dr. Martin:

To my colleagues across the Department of Medicine,

The first week of September marked my first as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director.  I am very excited to start in this role, and look forward to collaborating with all of you across the Department of Medicine.

As a previous graduate, I have great pride in this program and recognize the strong legacy that exists.  I am also committed to growing and evolving the program to ensure our residents have a world class training experience that prepares them to become exceptional clinicians, to be successful in their chosen fields, and to meet the changing needs of the communities they serve over their careers.  This cannot be accomplished without all of you!  I want to thank you for everything you do to supervise, teach, mentor and coach our residents across clinical, educational and other settings.  Please know that my virtual office door is open to all of you, and I welcome your ongoing input towards achieving the mission of our program.

I also wanted to take this opportunity to recognize the outstanding work Dr. Lori Whitehead has done in this role over the past 5 years.  She has always been a fierce resident advocate, and has greatly shaped this program over her term.  She leaves big shoes to be filled, and it is my honour to do so.

With gratitude,

Leslie Martin MD FRCPC MHPE, Director, Internal Medicine Residency Program, Assistant Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine, McMaster University
