The Division of Gastroenterology comprises 21 full and part-time faculty members, providing care for patients with gastrointestinal disorders in four acute care sites in Hamilton. The division has clinicians with expertise that includes gastroesophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel disease, functional gastrointestinal diseases, motility disorders, nutrition, advanced endoscopy techniques and hepatology.
Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute
There is a close relationship between the Division of Gastroenterology and the Farncombe Family Digestive Health Research Institute. This collaborative multidisciplinary approach has resulted in many groundbreaking studies and we have an international reputation as one of the top ten research groups in the world. The Upper Gastrointestinal and Pancreatic Diseases Cochrane Review Group also has a base at McMaster to facilitate the synthesis and knowledge translation of primary GI research to patients and clinicians.
Adult Gastroenterology Training Program
The resident teaching program is popular and well regarded. The program has been successful in nurturing some of the best young gastroenterologists in Canada. The busy clinical activity ensures that the resident is exposed to a wide spectrum of GI problems and disease. The world-class researchers in the Division are able to give an unparalleled opportunity for the residents to learn about the latest developments in the management of a variety of problems.
