Executive Director, Population Health Research Institute; HSF/Marion W. Burke Chair in Cardiovascular Disease; Chief Scientist, Hamilton Health Sciences
Dr. Yusuf has led over 60 major international studies in over 100 countries and several of these have changed medical practice. He was the second most cited researcher in the world for 2011 and has the 17th highest H factor in history.
RESEARCH INTERESTS: societal, behavioral, biologic, and genetic determinants of population health in global populations
Dr. Conen is a trained Internist and clinical cardiologist from Basel, Switzerland. He sees patients in an inpatient and outpatient setting for cardiology, CCU and perioperative medicine.
RESEARCH INTERESTS: Dr. Conen is involved in large epidemiological cohort studies which study risk factors for the occurrence of atrial fibrillation and its consequences. He is also interested in clinical trials on therapies to prevent atrial fibrillation and the complications associated with arrhythmia. He is the Principal Investigator of a large national cohort study to assess the relationship between atrial fibrillation and cognitive decline (Swiss-AF). He lead a large cohort study of young, healthy individuals (GAPP), focusing on assessing risk factors for the development of cardiovascular risk factors in the general population.
Chair, Department of Medicine; Leo Pharma Chair in Thromboembolism Research; Clinical Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Pathology and Molecular Medicine associate member
Dr Crowther is currently chair of the Department of Medicine at McMaster University and holds the Leo Pharma Chair in Thromboembolism Research at McMaster University.
RESEARCH INTERESTS: Exploring ways of improving the way that we use our current anticoagulant drugs, including exploring established and novel interventions to mitigate bleeding and anticoagulant drugs in high-risk patient populations; Developing systematic reviews of key questions in hematology and thrombosis and basing guidelines on those reviews.
PHRI Chair in Cardiology Research; Cardiology Division DIrector; Director of Arrhythmia Services, Hamilton General Hospital
Dr. Healey is director of arrhythmia services at HHS, professor of Medicine and the PHRI Chair in Cardiology Research. He sees patients in specialized outpatient clinics for interited arrhythmias, cardiac sarcoidosis and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
RESEARCH INTERESTS: Dr. Healey's research interest is focused on atrial fibrillation and stroke prevention. He was the lead author of the ASSERT trial which demonstrated the increased stroke risk associated with sub-clinical atrial fibrillation detected by pacemakers. He was also lead author of the SIMPLE trial which demonstrated that implantable defibrillators could be safely inserted without performing intra-operative defibrillation testing.
