Thalassemia is a blood disorder caused by the malformation of red blood cells in the body which results from the abnormal formation of hemoglobin. This video will take you through an overview of the condition, including a discussion of the molecular mechanisms of its pathology, symptoms, diagnosis, current and novel treatments that aim to cure the condition.
As thalassemia is a rare disorder, the video will elucidate the difficulties associated with being diagnosed from the perspective of the patient or a loved one and the importance of maintaining hope throughout the process.
