Demystifying Medicine Video

Anorexia nervosa is defined as the inability to maintain a healthy body weight for one’s age, sex, developmental trajectory or physical health. It is accompanied by an intense fear of weight gain and obsessive behaviour to prevent it. This video defines the different types of anorexia and describes its effects on the digestive system. It looks at problems that occur in the gastrointestinal tract and therapies for anorexia nervosa including family-based therapy, psychotherapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT).
