Hypertension (i.e. high blood pressure) and diabetes are two of the most common causes of kidney failure in North America. Over a long period of time, these conditions may cause irreversible damage to the kidneys and lead to chronic kidney disease (CKD). Requested by Dr. Joan Krepinsky of the Hamilton Centre for Kidney Research (HCKR), this video outlines the mechanisms that are currently believed to be involved in this chain of events.
