Richard M. Epand received his A.B. from the Johns Hopkins University and his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Columbia University. He then gained research experience in the laboratories of Harold Scheraga at Cornell University and with Luis Leloir at the Instituto de Investigaciones Bioquímicas in Buenos Aires. Dr. Epand took up his first faculty position at the University of Guelph in Ontario in the Department of Chemistry as Assistant Professor. From there he joined McMaster University where he spent most of his professional career in the Department of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences.
Dr. Epand received the Avanti Award in Lipids from the Biophysical Society and has been elected a Fellow of that society. He has also been granted a Senior Investigator Award from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. Dr. Epand recently completed his term as Executive Editor of the Biomembranes section of Biochimica Biophysica Acta. He has over 400 manuscripts published in peer reviewed journals as well as having edited several books.
